F2 Chemicals Ltd

F2 Chemicals Ltd was established in 1992 as BNFL Fluorochemicals Ltd, a diversification venture of British Nuclear Fuels plc set up to exploit BNFL’s fluorine generation expertise, and operates from a production plant in Preston, Lancashire built in 1993 after acquiring the Flutec perfluorocarbon fluids business from Rhone-Poulenc. The company manufactures elemental fluorine on demand and uses it to produce high-purity perfluorinated Flutec fluids and, through selective direct fluorination, SF5 compounds and fluorinated ketoesters used as pharmaceutical intermediates.

Flutec fluids are supplied for oil, gas and atmospheric tracing, semiconductor manufacture, medical applications and as dielectric cooling fluids for high-powered electronics, and the company has passed FDA pre-approval audits for cGMP perfluorobutane production. Ownership has passed from BNFL to a consortium of Asahi Glass and Mitsubishi in 2000, to Resonac (formerly Showa Denko) in 2008, and most recently to Rcapital Partners in September 2025, returning the company to British ownership. F2 Chemicals is ISO 9001 certified and manufactures all its products in the UK.
